Edward T. Tamashunas, age 84, a resident of Milford, CT, died
Monday, July 12, 1999, in Lord Chamberlain Health Care, Stratford.
Tamashunas was born in Bridgeport, he was a graduate of Harding High
School and Arnold College and later received his Masters in Education
Administration from Fairfield University. In 1936 he started his career
in education as a physical education teacher at Congress High School
and Whittier Junior High School and was a track and swim coach at
Harding High School. He also was the cross country coach at Fairfield
University. Mr. Tamashunas was a Bridgeport police officer for a short
time and also served in World War II with the Army Air Corps. During his
45 years with the Board of Education he served as Director of guidance;
liaison between city youths and a drug abuse commission; Assistant
Principal and then Principal of Central High School and from 1972 until
his retirement in 1984, he was Principal of Bassick High School. Mr.
Tamashunas devoted his entire career to Bridgeport's young people and
their educational needs. He is survived by his children, Edward J.
Tamashunas and his wife, Kathleen, of Del Ray Beach, Fla., Eileen Fuchs
and her husband, Charles, of Monroe, Marie Clark of Monroe, and Richard
Tamashunas of Ansonia; his grandchildren, Kenneth Saray, Shannon Saray,
William Saray, James Clark, Edward Allen, Kathleen Allen, Kimberly
Allen, Christopher Tamashunas and Eileen Tamashunas; and his
great-granddaughter, Allison Saray. Friends may attend the funeral on
Friday at 10 a.m. in the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and
Gorham Place, Trumbull. Interment in St. Michael's Cemetery,
Stratford. Friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.
