Richard P. O'Connell, age 60, of Bridgeport, died on Monday, October 11,
2004, at Milford Hospital. Born in Bridgeport, he resided in Trumbull and
Bridgeport throughout his lifetime. Richard was a Viet Nam veteran, having
served in the United States Air Force and was member of the VFW. He was a
retired Bridgeport Police officer with 20 proud years of service. Among his
numerous commendations, he was named "Patrolman of the Year for Heroic
Duty in 1978. He was currently employed at Valley Farm Drive-In in Bridgeport
and Great River Golf Club of Milford. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and dancing.
An avid golfer, he was a member of Whitney Farms Men's Club. Richard,
affectionately nicknamed "Duke" by his family, is survived by his
mother, Florence O'Connell of Bridgeport; daughters, Erin O'Connell of
Stratford, Tiffany Viglione and her husband, Joseph, of Bridgeport, and Tara
O'Connell of Trumbull; sister, June M. O'Connell of Bridgeport; three
grandchildren; and several aunts; and cousins. He will also be sadly missed by
his loving and devoted companion of many years, Darlene B. Dougiello of
Fairfield. He was predeceased by his father, Richard J. O'Connell. Friends are
invited to go directly to church on Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua
Church, in Fairfield, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Friends may call on
Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Fairfield Funeral Home of Edmund W. Dougello,
36 South Pine Creek Road.
