Helena V. Gale of Bridgeport, age 97, retired principal of Bryant School,
died Sunday, July 4, 1999, in the Carolton Chronic and Convalescent
Hospital. Born in South Amboy, N.J., she was a Bridgeport resident for
most of her life. She was a graduate of St. Augustine School, Central
High School and the Bridgeport Norman School. Miss Gale received her
Bachelor's and Master's degrees in education at Columbia University in
New York City. She was a teacher at Madison School, the Principal of
Wheeler School, Hall School and Bryant School. After leaving the
Bridgeport Board of Education, She taught at the University of
Bridgeport. She was a member of the N.E.A. State and National, and the
Council of Catholic Women - State and National. She is survived by her
sister, Mrs. Rosalie Gale Clark of St. Petersburg, Fla. and was
predeceased by her three brothers, William J. Gale, Thomas B. Gale II,
James E. Gale and a sister, Ruth Healey Gale. Additional survivors
include nephews, John Onkey of Boca Raton, Fla., Richard Onkey M.D. P.A.
of Naples, Fla., Philip Onkey of Tallahassee, Fla., Thomas E. Gale of
Reston, Va., William Gerry Gale of Washington, Ga.; niece, Margaret L.
Gale Francis of Easton; nephew, Thomas B. Gale III of Huntsville,
Alabama; nieces, Sandra Gale Elsassar of Mt. Lebanon, Pa., Gretchen Gale
Benson of Hilton Head, S.C., nephews, David Gale of Cranston, R.I. and
James C. Gale of Reston, Va.; many grandnieces and nephews and several
great-grandnieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on
Wednesday at 9 a.m. in St. Augustine Cathedral with a Mass of Christian
Burial. Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery. There will be no
calling hours. Arrangements by the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main
Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull.
